"It’s important to shop around at home and explore where you might be able to save money."

Of those surveyed (2,000), 32% of holidaymakers from the UK travelled for dental cleaning. This was followed by teeth whitening or fillings (24%), crown procedures (20%), root canals (19%), extractions (18%), and veneers or composite bonding procedures (11%). On average, people have spent £3,780 on dentistry abroad.
Canada Life highlights that these numbers come as 13% of adults in the UK admit to having not seen a dentist for over five years – nearly half (48%) said they’d been putting off booking an appointment due to cost (13%), dentophobia (12%), or lack of suitable appointment times (7%).

“It’s understandable why many are going abroad for dentistry when the alternative of UK treatments are often a lot more expensive by comparison,” said Jo Turner, Head of Product & Proposition for Group Protection at Canada Life. She warns customers not to be “seduced” by what looks like a bargain; “Having to fix mistakes can end up blowing your budget out of the water.”
