Aviva has announced that it is extending its menopause support service among its private medical insurance (PMI) customers to include both individuals and small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The service, which can be accessed via Aviva’s digital GP app, offers access to menopause‑trained healthcare professionals, including up to six 30‑minute consultations with a menopause trained nurse.
There is also the possibility for the patient to be referred to a GP with menopause expertise for up to two additional consultations if further medical input is required and referral is clinically appropriate, and general GP advice is available on the app.
A symptom assessment tool is also included as part of the menopause support, as well as an online information hub with guidance on how to help manage menopause symptoms.
The service, which can be accessed via Aviva’s digital GP, has been used by over 5,000 people through their corporate healthcare over the past year, with 39% of appointments related to mental health, including mood swings and anxiety, 22% related to general support, 13% related to fatigue, and 10% related to irregular or excessive bleeding. Aviva’s usage data from this time period found that 66% were given the required guidance or medication and did not need to be referred back to their own GP in the process.
By extending the support service to individual and SME policyholders, it will now be available to over 675,000 additional customers, as well as their family members.
"Access to specialist menopause support can make a real difference to people’s health, confidence and everyday working lives," Dr Subashini M, medical director at Aviva UK Health, said. "By extending our menopause services to individual and SME customers, we’re enabling more people to access timely expert guidance and feel supported through what can be a challenging life stage."
