"By shifting more medical evidence requirements to nurse-led screenings, we’re helping customers get their cover more quickly."
- Robert Morrison - Aviva
Aviva has announced changes to its non-medical underwriting limits with the aim of improving accessibility and end-to-end turnaround times.
The change will see Aviva transitioning more than 80% of medical examinations from traditional doctor examinations to nurse-led medical screenings.
Nurse screenings can be carried out in a customer’s home or workplace, meaning appointments can be arranged more quickly and helping to reduce the time to complete a medical examination by up to 50%.
This is the latest step in a number of changes to Aviva’s underwriting approach including the earlier launch of an AI summarisation tool for critical illness and life insurance.

"We’re continually looking for ways to make underwriting faster, simpler and more customer-focused without compromising on the quality of our risk assessment," Robert Morrison, chief underwriting officer at Aviva, said.
"By shifting more medical evidence requirements to nurse-led screenings, we’re helping customers get their cover more quickly.
"At the same time, we’re using technology, including our AI underwriting summarisation tool for life and CI. These improvements mean a more efficient experience for customers and advisers."
