Aviva has reported a continuous shift in how protection customers are engaging with their health and wellbeing, as digital GP appointments through its Digicare+ apps rose to more than 61,000 a year.

More than 172,800 customers with individual or group protection cover registered with the DigiCare+ apps in 2025, bringing the total number of people who can access GP, mental health and nutrition appointments, as well as other wellbeing services, to 673,500.

The total number of digital GP appointments booked in 2025 rose 36% to 61,300, compared to 45,100 the prior year.

Skin complaints such as moles remained the most common reason for an appointment, followed by joint and muscular pain, colds and flu symptoms, and women’s health, while bookings for the apps' mental health consultation service rose by 3.5% to 23,100 sessions in 2025.

Anxiety was the most common reason for seeking support last year (31%), followed by 27% seeking support for depression or low mood and 20% for stress. While the number of appointments for anxiety and depression or low mood was broadly consistent with the previous year, Aviva saw a 16% increase in people booking consultations for stress. Notably, women made up 59% of users for the mental health consultation service.

Meanwhile, over 10,600 nutrition consultations were made, with over two-thirds (68%) of appointments for women, and more than 46,300 health checks were completed by customers using the finger-prick blood test last year, helping 67% of customers to identify a cholesterol level outside a normal range and 59% to identify an abnormal liver health reading.

Aviva Smart Health for customers with Aviva Protection UK policies also delivered 22,000 GP consultations in 2025, including over 2,800 for children. The service also supported 3,704 fitness programmes and 1,114 mental health cases.

"Demand for the diverse services through our DigiCare+ and Smart Health apps shows that people are embracing a more proactive and preventative approach to their health," Fran Bruce, managing director, protection at Aviva, said. "Whether it’s speaking to a GP or getting mental health support, our customers are using these tools to take control of their wellbeing.

"This shift is not just about convenience, it’s about empowering people to make informed decisions, access support quickly, and build healthier habits for the future.

"As digital health tools become more embedded in everyday life, Aviva’s added-value services are helping to remove barriers to care, encourage early action, and support long-term wellbeing, ensuring that customers can access the help they need, when they need it most."
