Laura Mason currently serves as CEO of Legal & General’s (L&G) Private Market business following several promotions from Director of Direct Investments at L&G Capital. She also works as a Board Member at Bruntwood SciTech & Pemberton Asset Management, as well as Board Chair at Oxford University Development Ltd. In the past, she’s been a Board Member at L&G Reinsurance & Media City and Consultant at WTW.
In her new role (effective from December 2024), Laura brings group-wide experience and in-depth knowledge of L&G – she was part of the founding team of its alternative asset business and led its institutional retirement division. She succeeds Bernie Hickman who, after a successful 26-year tenure, will be leaving L&G to focus on new opportunities at the end of the year.
“Our retail businesses are foundational to L&G, reflecting our roots in insurance as well as being an important growth opportunity for the group as we expand our workplace retirement proposition. I’m delighted to be taking leadership of our talented team to deliver an exciting strategy that will see us deepen our support for customers throughout their lifetimes,” she said.
“L&G has been a great place to work for the last 26 years, creating strong businesses that deliver for customers, shareholders, and society. I would like to thank all the people I have worked alongside; I know I’m leaving the business in good hands and positioned for continued success,” Bernie added.
Katie Worgan is joining L&G from Lloyds Banking Group where she served as Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer of Consumer Relationships. She will take up the newly created role of Group Chief Operating Officer, leading the group’s operations, technology, digital & data, procurement, property, and workplace strategies – working across functions and divisions.
She said “Operational excellence is central to achieving L&G’s strategic ambitions and continuing to deliver its strong sense of purpose. I’m looking forward to working with teams across the business to harness technology & data to deliver great experiences and outcomes for customers, clients, and colleagues.”
Both appointments are subject to regulatory approval.
António Simões, CEO of L&G, stressed “We’re making rapid progress on our vision for growing, simpler, better-connected business. These leadership appointments reflect our intention to continue to move at pace to implement our strategy.”
