Today, MetLife UK has extended its partnership with Everest to provide end-of-life planning and compassionate funeral support to employees’ parents and in-laws. Available to MetLife’s Group Life policyholders, Everest’s funeral concierge service supports staff and their families in the event of their death.

Everest provides independent research reports on local funeral homes that can be shared with relatives. Its digital tools, including comprehensive will writing, mirror wills, living wills, and drafting a Power of Attorney, can be accessed by policyholders free of charge and stored in Everest’s digital lockbox.

According to recent research commissioned by MetLife UK, 25% of adults who’ve experienced bereavement in the last two years struggled to make decisions while grieving.

Of those surveyed (2,003), less than half (46%) had felt prepared when organising funeral and memorial arrangements for their loved ones, whilst over a fifth (21%) said it had added stress at a difficult time.

“Protection isn’t just about financial wellbeing. Continuous innovation is vital to help people feel looked after and supported. That’s never truer than when suffering a bereavement, and in extending our Group Life & Legacy proposition to parents and in-laws of the insured employee, we aim to provide more peace of mind,” explained Charlotte O’Brien, head of employee benefits at MetLife UK.

She said: “Those older family members will now know that they can access independent support and guidance if they need to leave their affairs in order, plan for the future, or arrange a funeral. This unique benefit should also help encourage people to talk about and plan for the future in a way that’s convenient and practical.”

Mark Wood, executive chairman of Everest, added: “Our collaboration with MetLife has delivered valuable support. The extent to which our services are valued is reflected in MetLife’s new business and renewal performance.”
