This new legal service will enable brokers at Just Mortgages to support customers with a range of estate planning solutions, including trusts, inheritance tax planning, and the protection of assets with lasting power of attorney. If a customer’s review identifies a specific need, Just Mortgages and Co-op Legal Services will be able to support; for more complex needs or wider financial advice, Just Mortgages will refer customers to Just Wealth, sister-firm and financial advice arm.
According to the Co-op ‘Planning for Death: National attitudes towards death, dying, bereavement, and later life planning’ 2024 Report, only 28% of adults in the UK claim to have a will. Likewise, The National Will Society found in 2023 that 42% of adults hadn’t spoken about what should happen to their estate upon their passing, with nearly half revealing that their parents had left no instructions either.
“When a loved one passes away without a will or robust estate planning, it can take a considerable amount of time to resolve their financial affairs. Worryingly though, this is a very real scenario facing the majority of adults in the UK,” explained Carl Parker, National Director at Just Mortgages.
