"This speed and early diagnosis will help many Bupa customers avoid more invasive treatments in the long term and save lives."
- Alex Perry, CEO of Bupa UK Insurance
According to Cancer Research UK, improved awareness and early diagnostic testing options for cancer of the prostate have led to nearly 80% of people surviving the disease for ten years or more. Encouraging peace of mind, Bupa customers can now book an appointment at the specialist centre for prostate cancer within 2 working days. They will receive all initial diagnostic tests and scans in the same appointment and, if necessary, will be treated within 31 days of calling. This is twice as fast as the national targets.
This is the third specialist centre status that Bupa has awarded to The London Clinic, with the hospital’s breast cancer pathway receiving specialist centre recognition in 2019, and most recently, for its bowel cancer pathway in 2022.
The London Clinic’s dedicated cancer wing uses the latest treatments for prostate cancer, including radical prostatectomies via its da Vinci Surgical System. This technology allows the hospital’s surgeons to perform operations with greater accuracy than open surgery which has led to faster recovery times.
Commenting on this announcement, Alex Perry, CEO of Bupa UK Insurance has said:
“We’re proud to be expanding our Specialist Centres for cancer even further, providing fast access to tests and treatment for our health insurance customers. This speed and early diagnosis will help many Bupa customers avoid more invasive treatments in the long term and save lives.”
Al Russell, CEO of The London Clinic, added:
“We’re honoured to have received this reputable stamp of approval from Bupa for our prostate cancer care services. Our world-leading urologists and pioneering treatment options mean patients being treated for prostate cancer are in the very best of hands.”
