Following research by the insurer that showed that weight management is the top health goal for 2025, despite half of UK adults not knowing their current weight, Bupa has widened availability to the weight management programme to health insurance customers as well as those on self-pay plans, which was launched in 2023.

The plan provides wraparound clinical and lifestyle support, including GP consultations, tailored health programmes, lifestyle coaching, and access to weight loss medication where clinically appropriate. Services are delivered through Bupa Health Clinics, supported by nurses via the Anytime Healthline, and include a six-month GP review to track progress.

During the initial GP consultation, the doctor will assess a customer’s BMI and any weight-related health conditions to determine whether they are suitable for the plan.

Businesses can offer the plan to employees in three ways: employee-funded, partially funded, or fully funded. From January 2026, corporate customers will also be able to enhance their employee health insurance schemes to include full cover for weight management services and related medications.

Dr Robin Clark, medical director for Bupa Insurance, said: “Obesity is one of the biggest health challenges facing the UK today. By offering access to expert clinical care, treatment and coaching, we’re helping people take control of their health and reduce their risk of serious conditions like diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

“We know that sustainable weight loss requires more than just willpower, it takes the right support, tools and clinical guidance. That’s why our approach combines trusted medical expertise, personalised coaching and weight loss medication where appropriate. Together, these elements empower people to make lasting improvements to their health and achieve the best possible results.”
