Matthew Hill currently serves as CEO of the Legal & General Board – a position he’s held since August 2019. Previously, he’s worked with the General Dental Council and Gambling Commission after more than twenty years in Central Government.

He replaces Alan Vallance, who left the CII Group at the end of December 2023. Gill White will remain Acting CEO until Matthew joins the CII in early April 2024.

Dr Helen Phillips, Chair of the CII Group Board said, “we’re delighted to have been able to appoint Matthew from a field of very strong candidates.” She believes Matthew brings a vast breadth of experience and the CII Group Board is “convinced” his leadership, combined with the energy of its members, will enable the CII Group to achieve the goals and ambitions listed in its five-year strategic plan.

Matthew said it’s a “great privilege” to be appointed CEO of the CII Group. “I have been very impressed by the CII’s very clear intent to provide first-rate sector leadership on behalf of its committed and passionate membership, and to deliver the highest professional standards for the benefit of public trust in the insurance, financial planning, and mortgage advice professions,” he explained.

“I will do everything I can to help it achieve those goals.”
