The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has announced the appointment of a new Professional Communities Advisory Board (PCAB), which has been designed to support the organisation’s strategic thinking across its focus areas.

The PCAB will bring together senior leaders from claims, underwriting and broking, along with representatives from the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to provide insights on emerging risks, market developments and professional priorities.

Richard Napoli, divisional director, customer solutions at Markel, will chair the PCAB, while Joel Markham, director of schemes and delegated authorities at AXA, has been appointed as deputy chair.

The other senior figures who will make up the PCAB are Janet Edey, financial lines director at Chubb, Kerry D’Souza, underwriting director at First Central, Eibhlin Swan, head of claims and customer delivery at Allianz, Alycia Thomson, PEMA practice director & chair of global at PIB, Nicola Maguire, commercial director at BIBA, and Sheryl Fernando, director of membership and commercial strategy at ABI.

The PCAB will aim to support the CII on key areas across thought leadership, learning and professional development, working alongside the specialist adviser groups in broking, claims and underwriting.

"The CII play a pivotal role in shaping and guiding the insurance industry," Richard Napoli said. "The formation of the PCAB will help the CII ensure its initiatives continue to be focussed on the priorities that are key to those operating in the industry. I look forward to supporting the CII in their strategic thinking and wider market mission."

Adam Harper, executive director, advocacy and professional standards at the CII, added: "The insurance profession is navigating significant change, from evolving customer expectations and emerging risks to new technologies and regulatory developments. At times like these, it is more important than ever that the CII's work is informed by the experience and insight of practitioners working across the profession.

"The Professional Communities Advisory Board brings together an exceptional group of leaders from across broking, underwriting and claims, alongside colleagues from BIBA and the ABI. Their expertise will help us to really understand the challenges and opportunities facing the profession, strengthen the relevance of our thought leadership and learning activity, and ensure that the voices of practitioners continue to shape the future direction of our work."
