"We’re committed to creating a culture where everyone can thrive."
- Joanna Browning, Managing Director of People at Markel International
Howden, Markel, Ageas, Fidelis MGU, and First-Central have partnered with Career Returners & Insurance Families Network to provide six-month paid placements for employees who have had an extended career break of at least eighteen months. Employees often take time out to care for children and elderly or sick relatives, relocating for new opportunities, and personal health issues.
Career Returners is a consulting, coaching and network organisation, originally operating as Women Returners. The organisation rebranded this year to reflect the “evolution of our activities to support returners of all genders.” Meanwhile, Insurance Families Network is a volunteer-run organisation that empowers parents and carers to have a better working life.” It focuses on the five key pillars: neurodiversity, domestic abuse, carers, generation needs, and working dads.
This programme will begin on the 7th May 2024 following a launch event at the end of this month. To help individuals prepare for the application process, workshops on how to create a compelling CV (1st February) and interview preparation (29th February) will be available.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to get involved in underwriting, claims, legal, finance, and technology alongside internal mentoring and coaching from Career Returners to assist with the transition back to the workplace.
Flexible working may also be available during and after the programme and participants could secure a permanent position following completion.
“We believe that everyone deserves a chance to pursue their passion and reach their full potential […] we’re proud to partner with Career Returners, a programme that helps individuals re-enter the workforce with confidence and support,” said Joanna Browning, Managing Director of People at Markel International.
