Prior to this appointment, James Shattock worked as Commercial Director for Retail Protection at Legal & General after three years at Unum UK where he served as Chief Underwriting Officer. James has over twenty-five years of experience in the insurance industry across both the direct and reinsurance markets.
He will replace Steve Griffiths who, after seventeen years at Legal & General, has announced his retirement. Under his leadership, Legal & General paid out record amounts in Retail Protection claims and introduced several changes to its product range, extending support to more people.
James said, “I strongly believe in the value we bring to our customers and their families, and I’m really excited about the opportunity to continue the great work already undertaken.” He feels that the protection market is going through a lot of change; “this provides a great opportunity for us to broaden our customer support to keep more people covered.”
Pippa Keeffe will succeed James as Commercial Director, bringing over thirteen years of experience in the protection market. Prior to this appointment, she’d been working as Business Development Director since joining Legal & General in 2021.
“I believe in the strength and quality of our people and know that we are well positioned for continued successful growth as we move forwards,” said Pippa.
Both roles will be crucial in leading the strategy and execution of Legal & General's protection proposition, pricing, underwriting and claims, as well as overseeing relationships with key partners and intermediaries.
