Zurich UK appoint Hilary Bates as chief compliance officer

Zurich UK has announced the appointment of Hilary Bates as its new chief compliance officer, subject to visa and regulatory approval.

Prior to Zurich, Bates served as head of strategy & technical at QBE Insurance after a promotion from head of long tail claims, as well as vice president of claims at Camico, senior counsel at CNA Insurance, and professional liability & employer stop loss claims supervisor at Chubb.

In her new role, Bates will move from Australia, where she currently serves as Zurich’s chief operating officer for Australia and New Zealand, to the UK where she will ensure Zurich’s compliance function delivers value “in all we do.”

Zurich UK has extended a “warm welcome” to Bates ahead of her arrival. Having worked in both Australia and the USA, the insurer praised her “significant governance and controls knowledge, alongside experience of delivering for customers across different markets in mature regulatory environments.”

Commenting on the appointment, Hilary Bates, incoming chief compliance officer at Zurich UK, has said:

“I am delighted to be joining the UK business as chief compliance officer. The UK compliance function is highly experienced and well versed in supporting and challenging the business to manage its compliance risks.”
