"The unique aspect of our service is that it reinvents the traditional approach to damage management by integrating sustainability right from day one."
- Peter Farrelly, Chief Operating Officer at Sedgwick

Addressing a critical gap in the market, Sedgwick’s new service combines damage management with sustainability efforts – usually, traditional approaches will treat sustainability as an afterthought. Sedgwick will ensure that sustainable practices are embedded from the initial stages of damage assessment, helping businesses recover more efficiently while minimising their environmental impact.

Sedgwick’s cohort of sustainable damage management consultants, disaster recovery project managers, and carbon reduction surveyors will work together using the latest three-dimensional (3D) digital imaging technology to provide scientific assessments of the damage extent so there’s clear and accurate understanding of the situation.

Recovery options will then be presented, prioritising sustainability – whether that’s greater emphasis on restoration, more energy-efficient drying, the use of resilient repair materials, or the re-purposing and recycling of waste streams.

Customers will receive detailed comparisons of the cost, time, and environmental impact of each recovery option, empowering them to make informed decisions. These assessments will help businesses meet their environmental, social & governance (ESG) targets, particularly for Scope 3 emissions which encompass all indirect emissions in an organisation’s value chain.

This service is an extension of Sedgwick’s global ESG strategy, acting as a strategic next step for the company’s UK operations.

“This innovative service addresses a common issue faced by insurers and other businesses: the struggle to balance immediate recovery needs with long-term sustainability goals. By integrating sustainable measures early in the damage management process, Sedgwick can facilitate more effective and environmentally friendly recoveries,” explained Tony McAdams, Damage Management Consultant at Sedgwick.

Peter Farrelly, Chief Operating Officer at Sedgwick, added: “The unique aspect of our service is that it reinvents the traditional approach to damage management by integrating sustainability right from day one.

“This ensures a more planet-friendly outcome for customers and insurers alike. Our approach not only meets the immediate needs of businesses to resume operations but also aligns with broader corporate sustainability and financial management goals — making it a win-win for all stakeholders,” he concluded.
