"Unum Dental policyholders will now benefit from an on-demand digital dentist, in-app assessments, e-prescriptions, clinic referrals and discounted cosmetic treatments."
- Dr Deepak Aulak, CEO of Toothfairy

As of May 2024, Unum’s new (and renewing) dental policyholders will be granted access to Toothfairy, offering an entry point to high-quality dentistry services, support, and guidance for everyday preventative dental care and routine treatment. This partnership is an exclusive arrangement within the dental insurance market.

Services will include unlimited use of its 1-2-1 chat helpline, virtual exams, real-time dental symptom checker, video consultations, discounts on cosmetic treatment, access to the dentist-led emergency appointment finder, as well as Unum’s Wellbeing Calendar.

In response to extensive market research, Unum has refreshed its dental products to provide “robust, impactful support for everyday preventative care and reimbursement for the treatments most often claimed by patients.” These enhancements include significant benefits to address inflation, alongside simplified clinical terminology.

Glenn Thompson, Chief Distribution Officer at Unum UK, explained that shocking research from the service provider recently revealed that 21% of employees avoided dental appointments in 2023 due to the Cost-of-Living Crisis. “We want to address that head-on with our innovative new products, quality services, and everyday dental care,” he said.

He believes that preventative services are key to reducing the need for more intensive and costly treatments. As such, Glen is delighted to announce Unum’s new holistic and progressive approach to dental care, “to help create and maintain happy, healthy, and productive workforces.”

“We’re excited to offer our evidence-based solution to have a real impact […] this is an industry-first in the dental insurance sector, and we feel our mission aligns closely with Unum,” added Dr Deepak Aulak, CEO of Toothfairy.
