The Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries (amii) has announced the launch of its new sector-wide education and certification training platform, aimed at supporting market confidence and regulatory compliance in the UK private medical insurance (PMI) industry.

Developed and delivered by Searchlight, part of UKGI Compliance, the amii training academy is overseen strategically by amii vice chair Liam Kennedy and executive chair Dave Middleton.

The programme, which is now live, aims to address long-standing gaps in technical training, regulatory understanding and practical market knowledge within the health insurance sector, and is aimed towards advisers at every stage of their careers.

The academy curriculum is built around nine core learning pillars, including the fundamentals of PMI, the interaction between private healthcare and the NHS, the structure and scale of the UK PMI market, and how the UK compares internationally.

Modules also cover product design, underwriting principles, claims management, regulatory and legislative frameworks, and Consumer Duty responsibilities.

Through the training platform, amii is introducing an ‘earn your certification’ pathway, which aims to help members formally demonstrate their expertise and professional development through certification hosted on the amii platform.

"The launch of the amii training academy marks an exciting moment for our sector," Liam Kennedy said. "As regulation, customer expectations and healthcare complexity all increase, the need for consistent, high-quality professional education has never been greater.

"This platform gives advisers a clear, structured learning journey that not only supports regulatory compliance but also strengthens confidence, technical capability and long-term professionalism across the market."

Dave Middleton added: "Our industry has long recognised the need for a single, credible framework that raises standards, supports advisers and strengthens trust in private medical insurance.

"The training academy provides practical education that helps advisers navigate regulatory change while delivering better outcomes for employers, individuals and patients."
