- Charlotte O’Brien, Head of Employee Benefits at MetLife UK
MetLife UK has published its group claim figures for 2024 to demonstrate how it provided “financial support to employees when they needed it most.” In the last twelve months, the provider paid £224mn in group claims.
95% of Group Life Insurance claims were paid within 2.5 working days. Overall, MetLife UK paid £205mn to 1,689 customers. The provider paid over £19mn across 6,309 claims for its Group Income Protection offering.
The provider saw growth in the number of lives covered – rising by nearly 140k since 2023.
Charlotte O’Brien, Head of Employee Benefits at MetLife UK, explained, “Our focus continues to be on making it as quick and easy as possible for people to claim financial support at difficult times. On average, it took just over 2.5 days to settle our Group Life claims, helping to make the lives of bereaved families slightly easier. And with record numbers currently on long-term sick – a real issue for the UK and its businesses – group protection contributes to a solution.”
She said: “Employers who offer financial protection benefits to their workforce also offer practical help in keeping their employees in work, as well as supporting them financially when there’s no other option.
“We’re pleased to have been there in 2024 when nearly 8k households either needed income support or had lost a family member,” Charlotte concluded.
