Of those surveyed (2,000), 52% are worried about receiving an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, followed by dementia (50%), and Parkinson’s disease (45%). Six in ten (61%) worry about becoming too frail to look after themselves.
Vitality reports significant concern about the impact a diagnosis could have on physical (57%) and mental health (53%). Moreover, 51% of respondents said they aren’t confident that they’d be able to meet the cost of social care should they require it, whilst 45% are concerned about the affordability of care.
60% expressed worry about the pressure a diagnosis would have on their families, yet only 14% thought their protection plan covered such conditions. Two-thirds (65%) said they would consider a policy that covers healthcare costs in retirement as well as age-related conditions.
